Temperatures continue to improve but Monday was not a day to be out and about, a generally dull day ended with an evening of drizzle and then steady rain.
Not too dull for a group of seven Greenfinches Carduelis chloris to take lunch on the Sunflower seeds.
The feeding station has a slightly new position from last year, I have moved it close to a Cotoneaster 'Cornubia' shrub where birds can shelter while waiting their turn.
Today was a marked improvement, in a very mild 15 C and very light wind it was enjoyable to be outside.
Lesser Celandines Ranunculus ficaria are now showing well on damp grass verges and shaded woodland floors, notably around the Lancing Manor park area and it's approaches.
The common Red Dead-nettle Lamium purpureum has been in flower almost continously through the winter but now has begun to put on an extra flourish of growth and the colours have intensified
The first of the small Hoverflies I have seen this year appeared in the garden at lunch time. It looked like the Marmalade variety Episyrphus balteatus.
