At around tea-time the cold showery conditions brought on a brief thunderstorm, flashes of lightning were closely followed by claps of thunder. The power supply must have taken a hit when household electrical appliances failed momentarily.
In north Portslade, a short distance eastward, hailstones estimated to be the size of golf balls were reported, it seems this may be a little exaggerated.
