Off with their heads

The grass verges were cut today; a small team of West Sussex CC contractors are employed to mow and strim every verge, every grassy island and grass bank in the Adur district seven times a year. (This years cutting schedule) The timing seems about ideal as the grass growth is begining to outstrip the wildflowers. The small early flowering Violets, Red-dead Nettle, Shepherds Purse and Hairy Bittercress have completed their life cycle for the most part and will benefit from the removal of the competition of tall grasses. Perennial Daisies and Dandelions may have had some flowers trimmed off but rapidly replace them.
There were some taller plants cut down by the mower that would have flowered later, I have not looked into what species they are.
