Over the past few weeks the garden House Sparrow population has been bolstered by the year's newly fledged young birds. The feeders are almost continuously attended by adults collecting sunflower seed to pass to eager youngsters waiting close by. The more mature of the new young birds are feeding themselves. Those parents who have finished raising the first brood have been busy collecting fresh nest material to prepare for the second clutch of eggs.
The present size of the flock is probably about 24 birds.
