Buff in the rough

A bright start to Wednesday with broken cloud which thickened during the morning bringing a few showers on blustery winds.
Although often threatening, the rain held off during the afternoon, the heavy grey clouds were whisked away on the brisk cool south-westerly wind.

Rough weather conditions have not been ideal for the flying insects but I managed to see one Holly Blue butterfly in a sheltered garden.
In the same garden a Buff-tailed Bumble bee had been literally grounded by the wet and windy conditions. It was in a position where, had I not moved it to safety, would have been trodden on.
The Buff-tailed BB that has made a nest in my air brick survived the rough weather and continues to make regular forage trips. Before leaving the garden it usually pauses on one or more of the garden flowers, as though fuelling up for the longer flight ahead of it.
