Green as a Parrott

Hygrocybe psittacina is a small WaxCap mushroom sometimes found in nutrient poor turf on well drained sites. In its early stages of growth it is green in clour and exudes a slimy gel.

This one , known as the Parrott mushroom was found in a lawn the I have been maintaining for almost a year. Cutting about twice a month blades set fairly high. Mowings are removed and composted except in very dry periods when the grass box is sometimes left off. No additional fertilizer is added.

Another Hygrocbybe found in the same lawn is H. conica. This one is redish orange and has an angular conical shape
