Night time temperatures have tumbled to small single figures this week, I thought it signaled the end of any daytime Butterfly activity but on Sunday in warm sun a Red Admiral fluttered around the front garden where in a slightly wild collection of plants, a tall Verbena bonariensis stands as a beacon to late insects. It's nectar must be in short supply with little heat to encourage the plant to produce it but the butterfly was determined to find some.
