October

As the wildlife data record starts to get a thin in October I will try to note what appears in the garden.

The Buddleia is still blossoming well and on the 1st it continues to attract one, sometimes two Red Admirals. I only saw the one today.
The Hummingbird Hawk moth is still coming to feed as it has been doing for at least the last week.
True birds visiting the garden have been Sparrows, numbering up to about 10 -12.
Blue tits are more noticeable recently, looking more distinctive with their winter colours deepening.
Magpies which bred in the tree this year are spending time roosting in their old nest site.
During the last days of September we have seen small groups of House martins fly overhead, taking their final English meals before heading off over the channel.
There seems to be a large group, maybe 30 or so, of Goldfinch in the skies, they don't visit the garden but their distinctive tinkling chat gives them away.
