A discarded berry from an Ivy soon grows into a new climbing plant at the base of a host tree and takes it's place providing welcome autumn nectar for Honey Bees, Hover Flies, Red Admirals and Speckled Wood butterflies which are still turning up in warm sheltered places on sunny days.
A Red Admiral flew over the garden on Friday and another was seen on Lancing seafront close to a bathing hut.
A Speckled Wood rested on a leaf of a tree in the corner of McIntyres field at Lancing Ring on Saturday.
Soon the Ivy will be coated with hundreds and thousands of dusty black coloured berries to provide a winter feast if the predicted cold weather grips.
