Butterfly madness on Lancing Ring as the population of Meadow Brown, Hedge Brown (Gatekeeper), Marbled White, Small Skipper and 5 spot Burnet moth reaches a peak of activity in bright strong sunshine.
An hours walk at around 9am showed hundreds of butterflies, mostly comprising of Meadow Brown but also a lot of Marbled White and Skippers, counting seemed pointless as there was probably one for every square yard of grass meadow.
At the dewpond on the bramble patch Gatekeeper predominated with a few (about 10) Marbled White.
No Blue butterflies or Vanessids were seen.
