Centipede

Lancing Nature Gallery | Centipede

Earlier this summer we spent a happy hour sorting through sieved garden compost to learn what invertebrates resided within.
We learned that most large inverts at this stage of the compost process were few and far between. There were plenty of Woodlice in the higher levels where twigs and leaves were still whole but in the humus fewer invertebrate animals lived. The active element must be happening at microscopic level where the soil bacteria carry on the work.
Among those found were Centipede, fast moving, multi legged creatures which hunt insects, spiders and even other centipedes.
