A new camera bought at the end of April has opened up new possibilities for recording nature's greatest and smallest creations ( well, quite small anyway).
With a macro focusing capability of 1cm from the subject, small insects come well within the possible subject material. My first tests have been on Bugs such as the Hawthorn Shield Bug and Hoverflies such as the Syrphus species.
One of the first species to be recorded for the Lancing Nature website on the new camera was the St Mark's Fly, Bibio marci which appeared in the garden at the same time that internet wildlife discussion forum reports were noting it in other locations
The camera's zoom range allows photography of birds on the garden hanging feeders or mice collecting the spilled seed.
Buying the camera strangely affected the weather which turned wet and cloudy almost instantly the camera was switched on but has now improved somewhat.
