Recent roundup

Recent high temperatures which have peaked at locally 28.6C, now seem to be likely to even out after storms crossed the country bringing heavy or torrential rain to many including the music event at Glastonbury in Somerset.
Wildlife doesn't appreciate very warm weather and becomes scarce in the garden until later in the day. Our Hedgehog has been seen late afternoon and early evening foraging around the garden, concentrating on areas under the bird feeders.

A recent walk on Lancing ring a Fox was caught off-guard in the open but soon disappeared from sight when my presence was noticed

Few butterflies have entered the garden although a Red Admiral was taking cover from the hot sun in a shady area.
Red Admiral numbers may be on the increase as two were seen within ten minutes flying rapidly northwards up the beach on Friday evening.
An unidentified Dragonfly alighted briefly on the sticks of a climbing plant support.
It had a brown-yellowish flattened body, I am proposing that it was a species of Chaser.
A male Blue-tailed Damselfly appeared near to the pond and rested on a tall grass stem.
A small green Speckled Bush Cricket was almost invisible on the flower head of some Italian Parsley.
Following the brief but heavy showers of the afternoon's electrical storm a Sparrowhawk was seen flying overhead.
