Lancing Ring
It seemed to me that the planned Butterfly Walk led by Brianne Reeve would probably be abandoned because of the frequent rain showers.
In spite the rain the walk went ahead after a slight delay with a group of about 12 adults and children, having arrived late I did not miss the whole event.
The showers had dampened the flight of many butterflies but in a dry interlude Large and Small White, Meadow Brown, Wall, Gatekeeper, Common Blue and most extraordinarily a Brown Argus were all seen in ones or two's.
The Brown Argus is normally associated with it's foodplant Rockrose but can also feed on Geranium species.
The new location for a female Wasp Spider was almost stumbled on when inspecting the Brown Argus, I spotted her male mate a few feet away.
In the long grass near the exit to the carpark I spotted the entrance to a hole belonging to a male Common Toad. His head was just visible and would have been overlooked had I not been concentrating.
